Preparation

How to prepare Monstrous Sandwiches

To prepare the monstrous buns, start with the dough: melt the butter and let it cool. Pour the flours into a bowl 1 with the yeast, the sugar 2, the vegetable charcoal, the milk 3, and start kneading.

When the mixture is fairly compact 4, pour in the melted butter 5 and knead until fully absorbed. Now move to the workbench 6.

Add the salt 7 and work for about 5 minutes. When you have obtained a smooth dough, form a ball, place it in a bowl 8, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 2 hours at room temperature. In the meantime, melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or microwave and pour it into a paper cone you prepared earlier 9.

Set aside 10 and also melt the white chocolate 11, then pour it into another paper cone 12.

On a tray lined with parchment paper, form 32 white chocolate circles to create the eyes 13 and create the pupil in the center with the dark chocolate 14. In the same way, draw 32 small white chocolate triangles that will be the teeth 15. Transfer the tray to the refrigerator.

When the dough has doubled in size 16, divide it into 16 balls, each weighing 2 oz (60g) 17, roll them and place them on two trays lined with parchment paper 18.

Cover with plastic wrap 19 and let rise for at least 30 minutes. After this time 20, bake in a preheated static oven at 390°F for 15 minutes. Once baked, let them cool at room temperature 21.

Cut the buns in half 22 and fill them with raspberry jam 23, close them and apply leftover melted chocolate as adhesive for the eyes 24.

Make the chocolate eyes stick to the top part of the bun 25, while the teeth can be attached directly to the jam 26. Your monstrous buns are ready for "trick or treat?" 27!

Storage

The monstrous buns can be stored without filling at room temperature in a paper bag for one day.

You can freeze them after baking.

Advice

Edible powdered vegetable charcoal can be purchased at herbal stores, it serves to naturally color doughs and has a neutral taste that does not impact on preparations, both sweet and savory.
