Ghostly shapes and a crisp, light crunch make these Halloween dessert favorites a big hit for any fall celebration. The charm of ghost meringue recipes lies in their playful appearance and sweet flavor that mixes a soft inside with just the right amount of crackle outside. Kids spot those cute faces and immediately want one…adults have just as much fun sneaking a few more! These ghost meringues really stand out on snack tables, bringing just the right mix of fun and DELICIOUS looks for the season. Families go for these every year—they brighten up the table, show off some Halloween style, and totally deliver that tasty satisfaction everyone expects from the best Halloween treats. Pair that crispy shell with a melting bite inside, and you’ve got a spooky addition to your party spread that everybody wants to try. Plus, seeing those little meringue ghosts lined up with their silly faces always brings out a few smiles (and plenty of happy munching) at family gatherings or classroom parties.

Busy families appreciate this clever easy Halloween treat since it feels festive but doesn’t require dozens of ingredients. Great for any crowd—the mix of chewy center, crunchy top, and adorable ghost look makes them a real favorite for spooky snacks at home or on the go. Sometimes, you find these served next to other Halloween sweets or tucked into treat bags; other times, they stand out on their own as the go-to party snack. Works just as well for those classic egg whites recipe fans who want something different, since cream of tartar keeps that ghostly shape sturdy and the whole snack pretty much foolproof. Whether you’re brainstorming new Halloween party ideas or just need something sweet but simple, these little confections are always a solid choice for every type of gathering. Everybody seems to love grabbing one after another, and there’s no denying the fun—just add them to your usual mix of ghoul-themed treats, or serve as eye-catching decorations that everyone can eat. How to prepare Halloween Ghosts

To prepare the Halloween ghosts, sift the flour into a bowl 1 and add the sugar 2, a pinch of salt, and the vanilla extract (or the seeds from a pod) 3.

Break the eggs with a fork in a small bowl 4, add them to the dry ingredients, and mix. Finally, melt the butter and add it to the mixture 5: blend everything until you get a creamy and lump-free mixture 6.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread a teaspoon of the mixture on it, then with the back of the teaspoon and with circular movements, expand it to obtain a circle about 4 inches in diameter 7. Once the tray is filled, bake it in a preheated oven at 390°F for 5 minutes. As soon as the edges turn amber, remove the circles of dough from the oven, detach them from the paper with a steel spatula 8, and immediately place them (while still warm, otherwise they will harden) in creme caramel molds which will give them the characteristic ghost shape 9.

Let your little ghosts cool, then unmold them onto a plate 10 and decorate them: melt the dark chocolate and transfer it into a piping bag, then draw eyes and mouths on each ghost, with different expressions (11-12). Finally, dust them with powdered sugar and your Halloween ghosts are ready!

Storage

Store the Halloween ghosts under a glass dome for 2-3 days.

Trivia

This recipe is very popular in the U.S.A., and for a few years now, it has been spreading here in Italy as well.

Tip

Don't like dark chocolate? No problem: replace it with milk chocolate. Keep in mind, though, that I used dark chocolate because it dries faster and better, ensuring a better effect. A change that has no impact on the preparation is the color: add some drops of food coloring to the mixture, in the color you prefer, and your colorful ghosts are ready!
