PRESENTATION
Chocolate waffles get a fun upgrade in Northern Europe, especially when you throw some tropical flair into the mix. Gaufres al cioccolato e frutto della passione is that kind of treat: you take classic chocolate waffles, which are already pretty rich and moist, and then pair them with a passion fruit sauce that’s a bit tangy and sweet. Folks in Belgium and France have loved waffles forever, but mixing in cocoa gives you something deeper and more dessert-like.
The passion fruit twist isn’t something you find in every easy waffle recipe up north, but it really really makes these different. You get the soft, tender inside of the waffle, plus the punch of tropical fruit—kind of like the best of two worlds coming together on your plate. And look, for anyone who’s into carnival food or just wants new brunch ideas, this one is a game-changer. Really. These chocolate passion fruit waffles are anything but boring.
They’re perfect for a special breakfast or a casual afternoon treat. Totally belong on a party menu when you want to impress people with something a little different. The crispy edges, the sweet hit from the sauce, and the rich cocoa flavor all blend in a way that’s both cozy and a bit adventurous.
People in Northern Europe know waffles are good with things like berries or whipped cream, but adding passion fruit sauce makes it more modern and exciting. Try mixing up your usual waffle toppings with this recipe—think of it as giving your homemade waffles a mini vacation.
Whether you’re into fruit-infused breakfasts or just want a golden treat with a twist, these waffles really give you both fun and flavor. Picture serving them at a lively brunch or a festive carnival event—they’ll fit right in with other dessert waffles but definitely bring something extra to the table. Pretty much perfect, especially during a celebration like Carnival. The blend of exotic flavors is sure to make any occasion feel special. So here's the thing, give it a try and see.

How to prepare Chocolate and Passion Fruit Waffles
To make the chocolate and passion fruit waffles, sift the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder into a bowl 1, pour in the milk while stirring with a whisk 2. Separate the yolk from the egg white and add the yolk to the mixture 3, making sure to keep the egg white.
Now incorporate the condensed milk and continue mixing 4. Separately, melt the butter, let it cool, and then add it to the mixture 5, cover the bowl with plastic wrap 6 and let the batter rest in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.
After the resting time, beat the egg white you set aside to stiff peaks 7 and gently fold it into the waffle batter 8. At this point, proceed with the cooking: heat a waffle iron, pour the batter into the designated mold with a ladle until the entire mold is filled 9.
Close the iron and cook the batter for about 5 minutes or as indicated by your iron. Once cooked, remove them and let them cool slightly 10. Now focus on the sauce: cut the passion fruits in half 11, extract the pulp and strain it through a sieve to remove the seeds and collect it in a bowl 12,
add the condensed milk 13 and stir to obtain a thick and homogeneous sauce 14. Place your chocolate waffles on a serving plate and accompany them with the passion fruit sauce 15.
