Cookies

In the kitchen, as in life, there are cornerstones. Especially when you are a child and snack time or breakfast are the most fun and delicious moments. Bread and Nutella or milk and cookies! And so, we incurable nostalgics, in front of a glass of cold milk, got inspired and could not resist making cookies to accompany it: Cookies (or Chocolate Chip Cookies), the famous round and buttery cookies with chocolate chips, made famous by many American movies. As often happens, the recipe for Cookies was born by chance, around the 1930s in the kitchen of Ruth Wakefield, the owner of the "Toll House Inn". Ruth had run out of the cocoa powder she usually used to prepare butter cookies for her guests. So, she decided to finely chop a chocolate bar and add it to the dough, imagining it would melt. Instead, the pieces remained intact, but her customers were thrilled with this delicious version. Thus was born what became the most famous cookie in America.
Even today, Ruth's Cookies are one of the most known American preparations in the world, but this does not detract from the many existing versions such as those enriched with blueberries and pistachios or the double chocolate chip cookies, for true chocolate-addicted, or the version coconut and lime, for those who love exotic flavors, all sharing the unmistakable crumbliness and round shape, typical of these cookies. Preparing cookies with our version is really simple: in a few minutes, you can make delicious cookies with a butter and sugar flavor, rich in chocolate chips! Sweetness is served!

How to prepare Cookies

To prepare the cookies, make sure the butter is soft. Then pour into a bowl the brown sugar and the granulated sugar 1. Add a pinch of salt 2 and the butter 3.

Work with an electric mixer until the ingredients are combined 4, add the egg 5 and work again with the electric mixer 6.

Once it is well absorbed, add the flour 7 and the baking soda 8. Work with the electric mixer 9 until you have a smooth mixture.

Add the chocolate chips 10 and mix with a spatula 11. Now using a 2-inch diameter scoop take a portion of dough (about 1.4-1.6 oz) 12.

Then, place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, well spaced apart 13, as they will tend to spread a lot during baking. Bake in a preheated static oven at 375°F for 13-15 minutes until they are golden brown. Remove from the oven 14, let cool and serve your cookies 15!

How to store

Store the cookies in a tin box for up to 2 weeks.

Freezing the dough is not recommended.

Tips

If you prefer a version even closer to the American one, use muscovado sugar instead of brown sugar and granulated sugar. You might need to slightly revise the doses of the other ingredients, particularly the flour, since the moisture content of this type of sugar is different from the others.

It's possible to add ground cinnamon, vanilla, or lemon zest to flavor the dough.

Instead of chocolate chips, you can use roughly chopped nuts, such as pecans. Alternatively, you can also use dehydrated blueberries.
