PRESENTATION

Glossy finish and smooth texture make royal icing a favorite for every sugar cookie project. Bright colors pop thanks to its easy tinting with gel food coloring, and kids always spot that sweet, crisp look at dessert tables. For family birthdays, classroom parties, or big holiday batches, this cookie icing adds that extra touch it really needs—hardening up with a pretty shine and keeping all your decorating cookies looking neat and fun. Designs stay sharp, while the nice texture gives decorated treats a professional vibe right from your own kitchen… Families choose the classic royal icing because it holds shape no matter which fun sprinkle or shape they try. Since it dries to the perfect consistency, you’ll get big smiles when everyone bites into delicious, decorated cookies that look just as good as they taste.

Busy home bakers often rely on royal icing as their go-to icing recipe for celebrations—works GREAT when decorating with kids at the weekend or prepping for a cookie swap. Using meringue powder and simple powdered sugar gives dependable results every time, so no worries about your outlines or floods. Options easily change; sometimes you want a thick border for outlining, other times a runnier mix for flooding consistency to fill in a festive reindeer…both hold up well since thickness is easy to adjust. Looks super nice spread across gingerbread men or fancy floral cookies (perfect for themed birthday parties). Flexible enough for detailed designs or a single layer—thiseasy royal icing lets you have fun experimenting with shapes and colors, always keeping your decorations bright, vivid, and secure. Families return to this cookie icing because it adapts to all those creative ideas, stands up beautifully under little hands piling on sprinkles, and keeps decorated treats looking FRESH throughout the whole event. Great for tradition, holidays, or any day you want really memorable cookies on the table!

How to prepare Royal icing

To prepare the royal icing, first, pour the egg whites into a bowl 1. Whisk until you obtain a foamy mixture 2. Add the powdered sugar 3.

Whisk vigorously 4 until you get a smooth and dense consistency 5. At this point, you have obtained your white royal icing. To color it, divide it into several small bowls 6.

Add a little food coloring 7 and mix 8. Gradually add the coloring until you get the desired shade. Prepare the other colors in this way; with these quantities, you can make up to 6 9.

Now prepare the parchment paper cones 10 and fill them 11. Get creative with cookie decoration 12.

Storage

Royal icing should be used immediately. It will last about half an hour before becoming hard.

If it dries out too soon, you can warm it in the microwave for a few seconds and then stir vigorously!

Tip

We recommend using non-vanilla powdered sugar for a brighter white.

To dry the cookies quickly, leave them in a cool place but not in the fridge. Humidity will slow down the drying process of the glaze.

You can add a few drops of lemon juice for a shinier glaze.

You can add a few drops of flavor to scent the glaze.

For food safety, you can use pasteurized egg whites.
