PRESENTATION
Golden caramel and a touch of flame, that’s what makes bananas flambé so FUN for any dessert table. Whether it’s a big group or just family at home, the soft, fluffy texture and sweet, bold flavor from banana flambe turn a normal meal into something really memorable (kids LOVE the little flame, adults can’t resist the aroma). It’s not just dessert—it’s a little show you don’t see every day, adding those deep caramel notes and that famous New Orleans spirit to the end of any meal. Special family events, weekend dinners, even random weeknights… this dessert brings everyone together because bananas flambé is always DELICIOUS, with a nice golden look and a little creamy finish everyone notices. The balance of flavors stands out (especially with the nice, just-warm banana and sweet sauce—that part’s hard to beat), and it just feels happy and welcoming stacked in a bowl ready to eat. Families usually go for this one at birthdays or holiday parties, but honestly, it’s just as good for a regular night when you want to treat everyone around the table to something a little special.
Without much effort, busy home cooks find bananas foster a reliable choice, since it can work with or without ice cream, and always feels festive. If you want, sprinkle a few nuts for a fun finish (kids tend to like that crunch, adults appreciate the little twist), or keep it simple if that’s more your style. This dish adapts well, so families can enjoy it alongside other easy banana recipes, and it’s always one of the first things to disappear at potlucks or after a Sunday dinner. The way bananas flambé fits into different occasions is part of the charm—it really shines when everyone wants something sweet, but doesn’t feel heavy. Families love the reliable flavors and great cinnamon notes, and the famous flaming desserts vibe is just the extra bonus (people ALWAYS remember the fun part of lighting it). Serve banana flambe with a little extra sauce or a scoop of creamy ice cream, and you’re guaranteed smiles. Kids and grown-ups both agree: this dessert is a real highlight, and pretty much everyone who tries it asks for the recipe next time.
- INGREDIENTS
- Bananas 4 - not too ripe
- Butter 3 tbsp (40 g)
- Sugar 0.6 cup (120 g)
- Orange juice 1 glass
- Rum 2 tbsp (30 g)
How to prepare Bananas flambé

To prepare the bananas flambé, start by squeezing the orange 1 and straining the juice 2. Then take a non-stick pan and put it on the heat to melt the sugar 3.

When it starts to caramelize 4, achieving a dark blonde color, add the butter 5. As soon as the butter has melted, add the whole peeled bananas to the pan over low heat for 1-2 minutes 6. Turn them gently on both sides to avoid breaking, making sure they absorb heat evenly.

At this point, add the rum 7 and let it catch fire, slightly tilting the pan towards the flame or using a culinary torch. When the flames have died down completely, remove the bananas from the pan and set them aside. In the remaining caramel in the pan, add the orange juice 8 and emulsify with a wooden spoon. Then put the bananas back in the pan and cook them again, turning them for even cooking 9.

Now that the bananas are cooked, cut half a banana into slices 10 and arrange it on a dessert plate. Place the other banana alongside the sliced one and pour the caramel sauce over both 11. You can serve leaving the flambéed banana whole or cutting it, entirely or partially, into slices to place alongside each other for an elegant presentation of the fruit. You can also serve these delicious bananas flambé with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
