Classic Onion Soup



  • 17.6 oz of onion (500g)
  • 3.5 oz of butter (100g)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • About 4 cups of beef broth (1l)
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 slice of white bread
  • 3.5 oz of grated cheese (100g)



Melt the butter in a pot and add the onions. Salt the onions immediately and cook over low heat for at least 40 minutes until they are soft and browned.

  1. Add a tablespoon of flour and let it cook for about two minutes.
  2. Pour in the liter of beef broth and cook for another half hour.
  3. Place a slice of toasted white bread on top of the soup and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  4. Broil in the oven at 350°F/180°C for 10 minutes.
